Today`s plenary session of the Azerbaijan Constitutional Court will discuss the case on the compliance of the Central Election Commission"s (CEC) protocol on the results of the parliamentary elections with the Article 89 of the Azerbaijani Constitution and the Electoral Code, and the approval of the election results.
"The Constitutional Court involved experts to verify the results of the elections," Judge Rafael Gvaladze stated at the plenary session.
Upon the Constitutional Court`s request, the Prosecutor General`s Office reported that 89 complaints were received over the violation of the election legislation. The Office filed a criminal case over one of them against the 89-th Goychay-Agdash Constituency. This case related to violation of election laws by one of the candidates of that Constituency. Above-mentioned person on made interference in the voting process on the election day.
As stated, Sheki, Sumgait, Ganja and Shirvan courts did not receive appeals in connection with the elections. The Baku Appeal Court reported about receipt of 59 cases. One of them had been returned and 58 - rejected. The Supreme Court has received 66 complaints in cassation order, including one civil case concerning the election results.
Azerbaijan held the elections on November 7.
The CEC approved the final protocol on the results of parliamentary elections on November 22. Seventeen of 18 CEC members signed the protocol.
The voter turnout hit about 50.14 percent (roughly 2.48 million voters) in Azerbaijan, the CEC`s Elections Information Center said.
The CEC reported that 690 candidates were running for the parliamentary elections.
Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan were held by the majority system in 125 constituencies. Previous parliamentary elections were held in November 2005.
