An International Conference on the topic “The position of Constitutional Courts and their influence on the legal order of the state” to the occasion of the 20th Anniversary of the establishment of the Constitutional Court of the Slovak Republic held in Košice.

The Deputy Chairman of the Constitutional Court Mrs. Sona Salmanova represented Azerbaijan at the Conference.

Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Slovak Republic Mrs. Ivetta Macejková welcomed the guests and announced the grand opening of the Conference.

The Conference was attended by the President of the Venice Commission of the European Council Mr. Gianni Buquicchio, a judge of the Court of the European Union Yuri Schwartz, a judge of the European Court of Human Rights Ian Shikuta, Chairmen, Vice-chairmen and Judges of the Constitutional Courts of many foreign countries.

Mrs. Sona Salmanova addressed with the topic “Legal positions of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan and their influence on the legislative process in Azerbaijan”.

At the Conference discussed the issues of the limits of constitutional and legal positions of the Constitutional Courts, the impact of these items on the legislative process, the relationship between the national Constitutional Courts and the European Court of Human Rights and etc.         

President of the Slovak Republic, Mr. Ivan Gašparovič, and the Chairman of the Parliament, Mr. Pavol Paskanin and Deputy Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mrs. S. Salmanova participated at the official presentation ceremony of postage stamp of the Constitutional Court of the Slovak Republic which took place in the State Theatre Košice.

Within the confines of the visit took place a meeting between the representatives of the Constitutional Court of the Slovak Republic and the higher judiciary authorities of the countries taking part at the event, the sides exchanged views on cooperation in the fields of judicial practice.

Mrs. Sona Salmanova attended the official ceremony of awarding the President of the Venice Commission of the European Council Mr. Gianni Buquicchio the title "doktor honoris causa ", held at the University of the Pavol Jozef Šafárik in April 10, 2013.
