On August 31, a meeting with international observers
of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States
was held in the Constitutional Court regarding the snap parliamentary elections
to the Milli Majlis.
Chairman Farhad Abdullayev, who gave detailed
information to the guests about the activities of Constitutional Court in the
election process, said that as society and the legal state develop, the
election process also develops and improves.
Chairman also informed the participants of the meeting
in detail about the powers and functions of Constitutional Court established in
the Constitution and laws of the Republic of Azerbaijan regarding the snap
parliamentary elections.
During the meeting, it was discussed in detail about
the legal positions reflected in the decision of the Plenum adopted on the
verification of the constitutionality of the relevant Decision of June 21, 2024
on the dissolution of the Milli Majlis and the appointment of snap
parliamentary elections based on the request of the President of Azerbaijan.
It was noted that after ensuring the territorial
integrity and state sovereignty of our republic, parliamentary elections will
be held for the first time in the entire territory of the country. Representation
of the Milli Majlis in a new composition after the restoration of the country's
territorial integrity during prestigious international events to be held in
November of this year, the full formation of a new convocation of the
parliament and the holding of snap parliamentary elections on September 1 in terms
of ensuring the implementation of the electoral rights of citizens is of
particular importance.
The importance of the opinions and suggestions of the
international observers of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly for the
election process was emphasized.
The guests said that this meeting at the
Constitutional Court is of particular importance to them in order to learn more
deeply about the general process on the eve of the snap parliamentary
elections.
During the meeting, opinions were exchanged on legal
issues related to the parliamentary elections, the powers of the Constitutional
Court in the legislation in this field were touched upon.
Farhad Abdullayev expressed confidence that the
elections will be held democratically, in accordance with the election
legislation, and will be fair and transparent.
First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of the
Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Andrey Yatskin, coordinator of the
international observer group of the CIS PA, and other official representatives
exchanged views on a number of issues of interest to them.
Judges of the
Constitutional Court and responsible employees of the Staff also participated
in the meeting.
