The Constitutional Court held a meeting with the Chairman of the Human Rights and Equality Institution of Turkey

On June 29, the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan held a meeting with a visiting delegation headed by the Chairman of the Human Rights and Equality Institution of Turkey (TIHEK) Suleyman Arslan.

Chairman of Constitutional Court Farhad Abdullayev in his speech noted that Azerbaijani-Turkish ties rely, as the great leader Heydar Aliyev said, on the thesis "One nation, two states." Chairman stated that relations between our fraternal countries are constantly developing thanks to the successful policy implemented by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. This strategic cooperation, which has great geopolitical and economic potential, is aimed at ensuring peace and security, as well as further strengthening economic development in the region.

It was emphasized that the signing of the Declaration on Allied Relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Turkey on June 15 in the city of Shusha, which is of great moral importance for our country, remained in our memory as a historical event. The Shusha Declaration is important in determining the political and legal mechanisms for establishing allied relations between the two countries, guided by the principles of independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, inviolability of internationally recognized borders, non-interference in the internal affairs of States implementing an independent foreign policy aimed at protecting and ensuring national interests.

It is noted that the protection by the Republic of Turkey of the right cause of our State and people in the struggle of the Republic of Azerbaijan for the ancestral lands and its integral part - Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as other occupied territories against the occupation and provocation of the Armenian armed forces, as well as its support for the triumph of justice, are an indicator of true brotherhood.

It was noted that the perpetrators of genocide and ethnic cleansing against Azerbaijani citizens as a result of aggression and occupation should be bring to responsibility at the international level. Currently in Baku there is a trial of members of Armenian armed groups who committed terrorist and provocative crimes on the territory of Azerbaijan. The prosecution of war criminals who committed a crime against humanity in Azerbaijan stems from the demand for justice.

Chairman Farhad Abdullayev stressed that the establishment of the Karabakh Monitoring Group under the Human Rights and Equality Institution of Turkey, composed of scholars of international law, and its fact-finding activities on Azerbaijani lands, preparation of well-founded reports and their dissemination to the international community is of great importance.

Chairman of the Human Rights and Equality Institution of Turkey Suleyman Arslan, expressing gratitude to Chairman of Constitutional Court Farhad Abdullayev for hospitality and provided detailed information on the main activities of the Karabakh Monitoring Group, consisting of experienced researchers who are members of the organization. He noted that during the visit to our country from June 28 to July 2, members of the Karabakh Monitoring Group under Human Rights and Equality Institution of Turkey it is planned to collect and study facts, prepare reports related to war crimes committed by the military-political leadership of Armenia in our territories, liberated as a result of the Great Victory in the Patriotic War, destroyed historical, religious, cultural, educational, medical, social facilities.

Suleyman Arslan emphasized that the implementation of the current mission, the collection, research and communication to influential international organizations of detailed information on violations of international law on lands liberated from occupation are an integral part of the ongoing support provided by the Republic of Turkey to Azerbaijan in the right cause of our country.

It was emphasized that the rapid exchange of information in the modern world, the receipt of information, the prompt and objective transmission of it to the international public can contribute to the suppression of formation of unfair and biased positions and, therefore, to the provision of norms and principles of international law.

During the meeting, a thorough exchange of views and discussion of legal issues took place.

The meeting was attended by Ambassador of Turkey to Azerbaijan Cahit Bagci and Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sabina Aliyeva.
