2009-04-28 Roundtable meeting held in Azerbaijan Constitutional Court

Constitutional Court of Azerbaijan and German Association for Technical Co-operation (GTZ) co-organized a roundtable meeting on individual constitutional complaint. 

Chairman of Constitutional Court Farhad Abdullayev said fundamental legal reforms are underway in the country. 
According to him, the Constitutional Court of Azerbaijan attaches great importance to international experience, particularly the experience of German Federal Constitutional Court. 

Abdullayev noted 2002 Constitutional amendments gave the Constitutional Court the authority to hear cases regarding individual appeals. It aims to promote human rights and freedoms in the country and to implement obligations and commitments towards the Council of Europe, he added. 

Farhad Abdullayev stressed though the Constitutional Court of Azerbaijan gained a lot of experience during the past five years, it needs exchange of experience, and in this regard, places special emphasis on international cooperation. 

Attending the event, Judge of the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany Siegfried Bross made a report on constitutional complaint in accordance with the Constitution of Germany. 

Bross said during his every trip to Azerbaijan he witnesses rapid development in the country, adding successes achieved by the Constitutional Court are evidence to that. 

Bross also briefed the participants on German Constitutional Court`s experience on hearing individual appeals. 

The event participants also heard a report by Judge of Azerbaijan Constitutional Court Eldar Mammadov.
