On July 16, 2019 in the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan was held a meeting with the Minister of Justice of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Walid bin Mohammad Al-Samaani.

Expressing his satisfaction with the visit of the delegation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Azerbaijan, Chairman of the Constitutional Court Farhad Abdullayev mentioned the importance of cooperation in the judicial field between the two countries held in the framework of the visit in terms of the development.

Chairman Farhad Abdullayev noted that friendly relations between the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and the King of Saudi Arabia Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud have contributed to the development of business relations between the relevant bodies of the two countries.

Reminding the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the Ministries of Justice of the two countries earlier this year, Farhad Abdullayev mentioned the importance of signing a Cooperation Program in Baku on July 15. Chairman Farhad Abdullayev said that the high level of bilateral relations creates favorable conditions for mutual visits, exchange of experience and familiarization with the judicial and legal developments. From this point of view, there are good opportunities for successful development of relations between the two countries in the legal field and expansion of relations.

Speaking to the guests about the activities of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Farhad Abdullayev said that following the adoption of the first Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 1995 under the authorship of the great leader Heydar Aliyev, large-scale legal reforms were launched. Three years after the adoption of the Constitution, according to the Decree of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev, the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan was established and the Court started its activity taking into account the international practices in this field. The Constitutional Court always places great emphasis on international co-operation, studying progressive court practice and trying to benefit from it.

The chairman of Constitutional Court noted that the 21st anniversary of the start of Constitutional Court's activity, which main function is to control the legislation's compliance with the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan, was completed on July 14, and noted that the Plenum of the Constitutional Court has adopted 400 decisions. The President emphasized that the Constitutional Court, which prioritizes the policy pursued by President Ilham Aliyev in its activities, pays special attention to complaints and petitions of citizens.

The head of the delegation, Dr. Walid bin Mohammad Al-Samaani, mentioned the importance of exchanging experience between Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia in various fields, including in the judicial and legal sphere. Noting the interest of his country in the development of cooperation between the Supreme Court Council and the Constitutional Court of Azerbaijan, the guest gave detailed information on the judicial system of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The Minister of Justice of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia expressed his gratitude to the Chairman of the Constitutional Court Farhad Abdullayev for the high hospitality and detailed information and expressed satisfaction with the rapid development of Azerbaijan and the beauty of our country.

During the conversation, the guests were asked questions related to the activities of Constitutional Court and exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.

At the end of the event, souvenirs were presented to each other. The guests got acquainted with the conditions created in the building of the Constitutional Court.
