On November 12 Baku hosted an international conference on the theme "The Constitutional mechanisms of protection of the human rights and freedoms" with joint organizational support of the Constitutional Court of the Azerbaijan Republic, Confederation of Lawyers, the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe and the German Society on Technical Cooperation (GTZ).

Opening the conference, the Chairman of the Constitutional Court Farhad Abdullayev noted that in the action devoted to the 15th anniversary of the Constitution of the Azerbaijan Republic, are taking part the chairmen and representatives of the European Human Rights Court, including bodies of the constitutional csupervision of Turkey, Ukraine, Russia, Georgia, Germany, Austria, Kazakhstan and Moldova, the management, experts and representatives of the International Association of Lawyers, and also confederates of Lawyers of Azerbaijan, the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe and the German Society on Technical Cooperation. As stated, today in public life of Azerbaijan is a significant event – the 15th anniversary of the first democratic Constitution of the Azerbaijan Republic. Acceptance of the Basic Law of the state stipulated reach of the Azerbaijan statehood into a new stage of independent development. Creation of this Constitution and its adoption by a referendum became possible thanks to the hard work carried out under the leadership of national leader Heydar Aliyev. It has been noticed that the past 15 years take a special place in the modern history of Azerbaijan. For this period, the country has reached fatal changes in building of the democratic state, development of economy and socio-political life. The conference also was addressed by the first vice-speaker of Milli Majlis Ziyafet Askarov, the representative of the Venice Commission of Council of Europe Tanja Gerwien, the chairman of committee on the legal policy and state building of Milli Majlis, Chairman of the Confederation of Lawyers of Azerbaijan Ali Huseynov, the chairman of the International Union of Lawyers Andrey Trebkov, head of GTZ Anya Kenigsman, the judge of the Constitutional Court of Turkey Sardar Ozguldur who underlined the importance of action. The conference participants heard reports on the theme and held discussions.
